Myles Edwin King, known to everyone as “Red”, went home to be with his Lord on March the 13th, 2026, at his home in Farmville, Virginia, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 26, 1962, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Fletcher James King, and late Virginia Swank King. Red lived a full and vibrant life that touched countless people along the way. He grew up in Amelia and graduated from Appomattox High School. In his younger days he enjoyed working with his dad on the farm and worked many years doing HVAC. He has worked numerous years for the National Parks Service in Appomattox as a maintenance engineer.
Red was the kind of person who could light up a room the moment he walked in, fun, outgoing, and always ready with a joke. He had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease. He was fiercely loyal to those who needed him. The sort of man you could count on no matter what.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams like the Washington Commanders, the New York Yankees, and the University of Virginia Cavaliers in all sports. He also enjoyed playing his guitar. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality and for his attention to detail.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara King; stepdaughter, Brenda Tuggle; stepson, James Robinson; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy Hill, and Iris Davis; brothers, George King, and Danny Mays; nephews, Stephen Davis (Laura) and Joseph Davis (Mayumi); nieces, Amanda, Bethany, Kimberly, Sarah, and Crystal; extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Melvin King, Ellis King, Roger King, and Rick Hill.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the University of Virginia Hospice team, including Hannah and Priscilla, for their tender care and support in Red's final weeks.
Though Red’s passing brings deep sorrow, his family finds comfort in the promise of his faith.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time - The family is planning to do a family and friends gathering this weekend - as soon as the day and time is confirmed we will post it here.
in lieu of flowers, please, consider donations to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
