Richard Ray Covington

Richard Ray “Bones” Covington, 96, of Kenbridge, VA passed away August 16, 2026. He was the last born and last surviving of seven children born to the late Jessie James Covington and Clydie Kinzie Covington.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Genevieve D. Covington; his daughter, Linda C. Wallace (Wayne); his son, Robert James “Bobby” Covington (Tammy); step-daughter, Patricia Anderson (John); four grandchildren, Christopher Wallace (Joanie), Jennifer Wallace, Brandon Covington and Misty Covington; step-grandchildren, Tammy Bishop and Crystal Spradlin (Jay); great-grandchildren, Cayley, Jonathan and Cadence; 6 step-great- grandchildren, and one step- great-great-grandson on the way.

Ray grew up in Georgia and joined the Navy when he turned 18. For 22 years he proudly and honorably served our Country. He retired in 1969 as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 with the US Army.

He was a member and Past Commander of VFW Post 7754, member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 0079, member and former deacon at Perseverance Christian Church in Dundas, member of Dundas Hunt Club and former member of Dundas Ruritan.

He enjoyed gardening, farming, watching TV, deer hunting, fishing and spending time at the lake.

He dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge, VA from 12:30 until the start of services at 2PM.

Burial with military honors to follow at Perseverance Christian Church, Dundas, VA.
